We’ve been really excited to start getting questions from listeners! Thank you to those who have taken the time to listen to the podcast and share what it brings to mind. As we were talking about the questions that folks have shared with us, it made sense to tie them to the ways that our trauma stories play a role in this work.
We talk a bit about individual and collective trauma (heavily influenced by the work of Resmaa Menakem), grounding into the body and regulating the nervous system, and the challenges of this for white-bodied folks in particular.
Please keep the feedback and questions coming!
Links to things mentioned in this episode:
Resmaa Menakem and his book My Grandmother’s Hands - this book is a must-read. It’s influenced all of our work in the space of working with white-bodied folks in anti-racism (as well as our own personal anti-racism work).
Dr. Gabor Maté - An addiction specialist who talks and writes about trauma and the ways that it’s impacting our health and well-being. You can’t go wrong with his books and podcast appearances.
Disrupting our Whiteness w/ Jennie Pearl and Dylan Wilder Quinn - this was a life-changing program for both of us. Honestly, we are still processing much of our experience, and it heavily influenced the work we are doing here on the podcast (including the title! 😊)
Core Energetics - A somatic and energetic therapeutic modality (often done in groups). Both of us were members of a group for years, and it helped us in our personal healing journeys. It should be noted that there are some important criticisms to be made about CE from an anti-racist perspective.
Holistic Resistance (Led by Aaron Johnson and Porsha Beed) - We link to these folks just about every episode because they are so influential to us. Teachers, mentors, friends. We appreciate them deeply.
Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad - if you are a white-bodied person, and you don’t know this book, you should. An excellent resource to help us work through our material.
DoP episode on Sessioning (#3) - This is the Apple Podcasts link to episode number three where we talk about this powerful practice. We recommend sharing it with folks and then engaging in the practice yourself! You can find this episode on any podcasting platform!
